An Endurance Race Ride covering approximately 160 km to be held on the Rowley
Mile Racecourse and the countryside surrounding Weston Wood Airfield by kind
permission of The Jockey Club Estates, The Newmarket Racecourses Trust and
the landowners in the Thurlow Hunt country under FEI Rules and Regulations
and in association with Endurance GB and the British Equestrian Federation
(BEF).

GENERAL CONDITIONS
This event is organised in accordance with:
- FEI Statutes (21st edition, 2004)
- FEI General Regulations (21st edition revision 2004 effective 1st January
2005)
- FEI Veterinary Regulations (9th edition 2002)
- The Rules for Endurance Riding (6th Edition, 2005)
- New Star Categorisation for Endurance (effective 1st January 2005)
- And all subsequent corrections and modifications to the above Rules and regulations
as published by the FEI.
An arbitration procedure is provided for the FEI Statutes and General Regulations
referred to above. In accordance with this procedure, any appeal against a
decision rendered by the FEI or its official bodies is to be settled exclusively
by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland.
SPECIFIC TECHNICAL CONDITIONS
COMPETITION
The competition will be 160km in total, to be ridden in one day. The race ride
will be held on the Rowley Mile, Newmarket Heath, through the National Stud
and roads and tracks south of Newmarket. The ground will be predominantly
grass (turf), all-weather surfaces, farm tracks and bridleways. Approximately
150m altitude differential.
There will be a Team (Nations Cup) and Individual Classification.
Time Limit: 12hours
Starting method: Massed start
Whips : The carrying of riding whips will not be permitted at any time.
Spurs: The wearing of spurs will not be permitted at any time.
Crews : One crew car per horse will be accredited. One car per Chef d’équipe
and team veterinarian of competing NF team will be accredited.
Crewing at designated Crew Points, Vet. Gates and Finish only.
Weights : The minimum weight must be 75kgs. See Article 821. Prior to the ride,
the rider will be weighed including protective head gear, complete with saddle
and saddle-pads to be used during the ride, empty water canteens but excluding
bridle, other tack or protective leg gear. If extra weights are required, the
rider must provide these at the weigh-in. Riders will be weighed at the end
of the ride and/or randomly with bridle and protective leg gear to compensate
for weight loss during the ride.
COURSE MARKINGS
The course marking will be by colour-coded markers placed along the course.
Compulsory gates will be marked with red (right) and white (left) flags.
Road crossings are involved at which the rules of the Highway Code apply.
The final course details will be discussed at the pre-ride briefing.
A mass start will launch the race ride at the Rowley Mile Racecourse. (05.00h)

VETERINARY INSPECTIONS
Initial Veterinary Inspection upon entry to the stables (Article 831)
The First Veterinary Inspection will be held on Saturday 25th June, 2005
at 15:00h.
Pulse Rates : In accordance with rule 831.3.1 the pulse rate should be 64
(sixty four) b.p.m. and presentation time 30 minutes.

Release of horses after the competition :
All horses will remain in the competition stables until they have been declared
fit to travel by the Veterinary Commission or its delegate on the morning of
Monday 27th June, 2005.
ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS
Invitations : National Federations (NF) are invited to enter
one team of four riders as well as 6 individual riders. There will be a team
classification
(Endurance Nations Cup of Great Britain) and an individual classification.
Team riders are also eligible for the individual classification. The declaration
of the team riders is made following the first Veterinary Examination. Entries
will be accepted in the chronological order that they have been received
in by the entries secretary.
UK Entrants : Horses registered with and riders that are members of Endurance
GB and are both qualified to Gold standard and endorsed by the British Equestrian
Federation.
Foreign Entrants : Entry endorsed by National Federation (ART. 123 GR)
National Federations (NF) (no restriction on numbers) are invited to enter
one team of four riders plus six individual riders as determined and advised
by the organizer. A list of further entrants seeking a “wild card” entry
can be submitted by each NF. Should fewer than 80 entries have been received
the Nominated Entries stage the OC will then consider entries from the “wild
card” list. Each is rider is accompanied by one groom for each horse.
NFs sending 2 or more riders are also invited to send a Chef d’Equipe
and Veterinary Surgeon. (Competitors must be entered for International competitions
by their NF). Organising Committees may not accept any other entries.

EXPENSES AND PRIVILEGES
Stabling : Permanent loose boxes at Tattersalls’ Park Paddocks on straw.
No corralling permitted.
The cost of stabling is included in the entry fee. (Stabling on shavings must
be requested in advance. An additional charge for delivery and disposal will
be charged!)
Exercise Trail: A marked exercise trail will be available to competitors whilst
their horses are in the competition stables. The Newmarket Heath Training Grounds
ARE NOT OPEN TO ENDURANCE HORSES FOR TRAINING WHILST THE HORSES ARE STABLED
AT PARK PADDOCKS. This must be strictly adhered to due to the exercise demands
of Newmarket training yards and gallop maintenance. Riders must wear approved
protective head gear during ridden exercise. The starting number must be visibly
carried by the horse outside of the competition stables.
Stables will open on 24th June 2005 at 09:00hrs, and horses must vacate the
premises by 12:00hrs on 27th June, 2005. Earlier arrivals and later departures
by prior arrangement with Ride Secretary only.
All horses are to be at the stables by 13:00hrs on 25th June 2005, unless otherwise
arranged.
Late arrivals will not be admitted to the stables and the competition other
than in exceptional circumstances. They will forfeit their entry fee.
All horses are to be stabled at the competition stables with the exception
of those not complying to FEI rulings . Alternate stabling will be found at
the competitors own expense.
Accommodation : A list of hotels and bed & breakfast accommodation is
enclosed. Competitors and connections are asked to arrange their own accommodation
needs and are advised to do so well in advance (by May) due to the demand.

The organising committee will contribute £500 per participating NF towards
transport costs. This will be paid at the close of the event.

VETERINARY MATTERS
VETERINARY EXAMINATIONS, INSPECTIONS & PASSPORT CONTROLS These will be
carried out in accordance with Vet. Regs. Art. 1011 & the discipline rules.
VETERINARY EXAMINATION Upon arrival at Park Paddocks. Tattersals
First Inspection 25th June 05 1500 hrs
Final Inspection 26th June 05 within 30 minutes of arrival
Best Condition Award 26th June 05 The first 10 horses to finish within 1 hour
of the winner will be eligible. Inspection will be held 1 hour after the last
eligible horse finishes.
“General Regulations”, 21st Edition, effective 1st January
2005, revised April 2004, will apply:
Art. 139.1:
Every horse entered for any competition at CNs or CIMs (see Appendix D) in
a foreign country, and all horses entered for other CIs, CIOs, Championships,
Regional and Olympic Games, whether at home or in foreign countries, must have
an official, valid FEI Passport, or a National Passport approved by the FEI
accompanied by an FEI Recognition Card, as a means of identification and to
establish ownership.
Art. 139.2:
Horses taking part in CNs, CIMs (see Appendix D) in their own country are not
required to have such a passport as mentioned in paragraph 1. All such horses
must be properly registered and identifiable by diagram. Unless there is
no national requirement for equine influenza vaccination in the host country
and in the country of origin, all horses must have a valid vaccination certificate.
EQUINE INFLUENZA VACCINATION, VET. REGS.
APPENDIXVI (except events taking
place in NZL & AUS)
All horses and ponies for which an FEI Passport, or a National Passport approved
by the FEI has been issued, must have the vaccination section endorsed by a
veterinarian, stating that it has received two injections for primary vaccination
against equine influenza, given between 1 and 3 months apart. In addition,
a booster injection must be recorded as having been given within each succeeding
6 months, subsequent to the second injection of the primary vaccination. None
of these injections must have been given within the preceding 7 days including
the day of the competition or of entry into the competition stables.
The above are the minimum requirements for influenza vaccination. Both primary
and first and subsequent booster injections should be given according to the
manufacturer's instructions which will fall within the stipulation of the FEI
ruling.
SAMPLING FOR PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES, (Vet. Regs. Chap V & VI and Annex III)
Regular sampling is carried out in CCI***/****, CSIs (Category A), CIOs, World
Cup Qualifiers and Finals, Championships and Games, whereas at other CIs sampling
is recommended. In CICs***/****, the number of horses tested is at the discretion
of the Testing Veterinarian/Veterinary Delegate; however, a minimum of three
is recommended (Vet. Regs. Art. 1016)
Special guidelines are applicable for events covered by the FEI Medication
Control Programme (Groups I & II only).
Medication Control Program (Groups I & II Only)
The Organising Committees of FEI events within Groups I & II are advised
to charge competitors the equivalent of CHF 12.50 per event as a contribution
towards the costs of the MCP programme.
Veterinary Health Requirements for Horses travelling from outside the United
Kingdom:
European Union : Valid Health Certificate and route plan.
Non-European Union : As per trilateral requirements with E.U., U.K. and third
country's veterinary authorities.
Entry & Veterinary Requirements – Identification :
GBR horses With Log Book containing vaccination record and graphic and written
identification AND a validated FEI passport.
Foreign horses With validated F.E.I. Passport

COMPLAINTS (Art. 168 - 171)
All complaints to be valid must be made in writing and accompanied by a deposit
of CHF 150 or equivalent.

Evacuation facilities will be the Beaufort Cottage Equine Hospital, Exning,
Nr. Newmarket, Suffolk.
Horse ambulances will be provided by Bill Fellows, Jockey Club Estates and
Tattersalls Ltd.

FEI INSURANCES
All owners and competitors are personally responsible for damages to third
parties caused by themselves, their employees, their agents or their horses.
They are therefore strongly advised to take out third-party insurance providing
full coverage for participation in equestrian events at home and abroad,
and to keep the policy up to date.
EVENT’S ORGANISATION (ART. 114 + 115)
In exceptional circumstances, together with the approval of Chefs d’Equipe
and Ground Jury, the OC reserves the right to modify the schedule in order
to clarify any matter or matters arising from an omission or due to unforeseen
circumstances. Any such changes must be notified to all competitors and officials
as soon as possible and they must be reported to the Secretary General. by
the Foreign Judge.

THE FEI CODE OF CONDUCT
FOR THE WELFARE OF THE HORSE
The Fédération Equestre International (FEI expects all those
involved in international equestrian sport to adhere to the FEI’s Code
of Conduct and to acknowledge and accept that at all times the welfare of the
horse must be paramount and must never be subordinated to competitive or commercial
influences.
1. At all stages during the preparation and training of competition horses,
welfare must take precedence over all other demands. This includes good horse
management, training methods, farriery and tack, and transportation.
2. Horses and competitors must be fit, competent and in good health before
they are allowed to compete. This encompasses medication use, surgical procedures
that threaten welfare or safety, pregnancy in mares and the misuse of aids.
3. Events must not prejudice horse welfare. This involves paying careful attention
to the competition areas, ground surfaces, weather conditions, stabling, site
safety and fitness of the horse for onward travel after the event.
4. Every effort must be made to ensure that horses receive proper attention
after they have competed and that they are treated humanely when their competition
careers are over. This covers proper veterinary care, competition injuries,
euthanasia and retirement.
5. The FEI urges all involved with the sport to attain the highest levels
of education in their areas of expertise.

HEALTH & SAFETY
British Endurance Riding Association Health and Safety
The organisers of this event have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the
health and safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective,
everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents
occurring and must obey the instructions of all organisers, officials and
stewards.
The Organising Committee, Tattersalls, The Jockey Club Estates, The Newmarket
Racecourses Trust and the Landowners who have granted permission to make use
of their properties do not accept any responsibility for injury or damage caused
to or incurred by competitors and/or their horses or to themselves, their property
or third parties and their property during the course of this event commencing
upon arrival at the stable facilities and competition venue listed above and
until their departure from the said facilities.
